21 February 2013 - Indian CM Jayalalitha halt Asia Championship due to ethnic conflict

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday said that her government will not host the 20th Asian Athletic Championships to be held in July this year in protest against the Sri Lankan team's participation in the event.

"Since the Sri Lankan government is repeatedly acting against the interests of Tamils living there, organising the event here will affect the sentiments of people in Tamil Nadu", she said in a statement.

Great Britain won their first gold medal of the 2013 World Track Cycling Championships as their women's team pursuit trio beat Australia in Belarus.

Olympic champions Laura Trott and Dani King teamed up with A-Level student Elinor Barker to defend the title.
They clocked three minutes 18.140 seconds to beat Australia's Annette Edmondson, Ashlee Ankudinoff and Melissa Hoskins by 1.773 secs.
Becky James won 500m time trial bronze to pick up her second medal in Minsk.
